Do you feel a personal responsibility to help others? Dedicating your time and talents in your community is a great way to develop your interest and skills while helping others at the same time.

There are many high school, college, professional, postgrad students or adults volunteer for community services. Feeding the homeless or reading to children are not the only options for volunteering. Additional opportunities to serve, include social and legal services, civic and environmental advocacy, arts and culture, education, and health services.

Volunteering is an essential part of a functioning society. Although individuals generally do not receive compensation for volunteer hours, the rewards of service go far beyond that of monetary payment.

Some reasons for you to start volunteering can be to:
•Help others
•Beat boredom
•Overcome a loss you have experienced
•Gain a perspective on life
•Meet new people and have fun while doing something good

No matter what your reasons are, you can learn about yourself, learn about others, and meet interesting people. You can help others as you help yourself develop into the best version of you.

Select the nonprofit organization of your choice. Fill out a registration form.

Here are some places to get you started:

  • Offer to help your own family and friends
  • Helping at a local school
  • Starting a yard sale to raise funds for the children’s home
  • Visit a home for the aged and help with chores
  • Coach a local youth sport team

To become a volunteer of my community, simply come out to one of our monthly meetings and sign up with a team member whom you will be greeted at the door. We would be delighted to have you join us, but before you do, have you consider the needs of your own family members first.
